Amps & Effects

Main Pedalboard for Gigs

I like to use effect pedals to extend the options of sounds I have in hand. The guitar parts can be more exciting if you explore different sounds to create atmospheres and complementary lines, as keyboards do.

Secondary Pedalboard

This pedalboard is sometimes used for gigs in small venues. It features Onerr pedals which are high quality copies of Boss effects. The wiring in this setup places the overdrive and wah pedals before the amp's preamp section while the modulation effects are placed in the loop chain just after the preamp. The Ibanez foot switch toggles between the amp overdriven and clean channels and also turns on and off the amp's reverb (or another available effect like a tremolo).
This pedalboard case was designed and built by myself in 2005 and is called "Black Box".

Amps

My dream amps are Fender ones, specifically the Pro-Tube Twin-Amp and the Hot-Rod DeVille. While Santa Claus does not bring me one though, for live performances I am using a vintage Peavey Classic 50W 2x12", all original, made in 1976. Its amp stage is powered by 2 6L6 valves. It has a very good clean sound including the embedded effects tremolo and spring reverb.
Thanks to my friend Rodrigo Lemos for this fantastic gift!

Recording

When recording I am flexible and open to shape my sound using software effects and guitar amp simulators added in the post production phase.
While performing the session though, the best result is achieved playing with deep feelings and this depends on the sound I hear while playing. Therefore, whenever possible I ask the engineer to record simultaneously 2 different tracks - one with my own effects and amps to get my own sound at the monitors and to serve as an alternative take; and another track with the very dry sound of the guitar, so it can be tailored afterwards by software effects. This way the producer has the choice of both sounds and can decide which one is better for the tune in production.
